We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Mechanical Designer to join our forward-thinking product development team. In this fully remote role, you will take ownership of designing complex mechanical systems and components, from initial concept through to detailed manufacturing-ready drawings. If you thrive in a collaborative, flexible environment and want to apply your CAD expertise to real-world challenges, this is your opportunity to build a rewarding career without ever leaving your home office.

Estimated Salary Range: $65,000 – $95,000 USD/year, based on experience, skill level, and proven portfolio. Compensation includes a competitive base salary with eligibility for annual performance bonuses.

About the Role

As a Remote Mechanical Designer, you will be a key player in our product lifecycle, creating innovative designs for industrial equipment, consumer goods, and automated systems. Your day-to-day will involve translating engineering specifications into precise 3D models and 2D documentation using industry-standard CAD software. You will collaborate virtually with electrical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are functional, cost-effective, and meet rigorous quality standards. This is not a solitary role; we use agile methodologies and daily digital stand-ups to keep our remote team connected and aligned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms.
  • Perform design analysis, including fit, form, function, and basic FEA simulations.
  • Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs) and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Work closely with suppliers and the manufacturing team to resolve design feasibility and production issues.
  • Participate in virtual design reviews and present concepts to cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain organized digital project files and adhere to company design standards and documentation protocols.

Requirements

We are looking for a professional who can operate independently with minimal supervision while being an effective communicator in a remote setting.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design or drafting.
  • Expert proficiency in SolidWorks is required; experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or Fusion 360 is a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection molding), and material properties.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a remote, asynchronous work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for clear digital collaboration.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in a fully remote or hybrid engineering role.
  • Familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) or PDM (Product Data Management) systems.
  • Knowledge of basic stress analysis and mechanical simulation tools.
  • A portfolio or sample work demonstrating clean, efficient, and manufacturable design (to be provided upon request).

Benefits & Perks

We believe in supporting our team holistically, especially in a remote-first model. Your success is our success.

  • 100% Remote Work: Work from anywhere within the United States. No commute, more time for what matters.
  • Flexible Schedule: Core collaboration hours are EST, but we offer flexibility to manage your work-life balance.
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums covered at 90% for employees and dependents.
  • Retirement Planning: 401(k) plan with a 4% company match.
  • Generous PTO: 20+ days of paid vacation, 10 sick days, and 12 company holidays.
  • Home Office Stipend: $1,000 annual allowance to optimize your workspace.
  • Professional Development: Annual budget for courses, certifications, and conferences.
