Unlock a dynamic career as a Remote Land Surveyor, where your expertise in boundaries and topography directly fuels the development of our nation’s future projects. Enjoy the flexibility of full-time remote work with competitive compensation, all while ensuring precision and compliance for critical construction, engineering, and land acquisition initiatives across the United States.
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) to join our distributed team. In this unique remote position, you will not be conducting traditional field surveys yourself. Instead, you will leverage your deep knowledge of surveying principles, legal descriptions, and geospatial data to review, analyze, and certify survey deliverables prepared by our trusted field crews and partners. You will serve as the critical quality assurance and final authority on all things survey-related, ensuring every plat, legal description, and boundary opinion meets rigorous state-specific standards and project requirements. This role is perfect for an experienced surveyor looking to transition from the field to a rewarding, desk-based leadership position with a national impact.
Core Responsibilities
- Review and certify boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking plans.
- Analyze field notes, GPS data, CAD drawings, and legal documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Research property records, deeds, and historical survey data to resolve complex boundary discrepancies.
- Prepare and finalize legal descriptions, plats, and survey reports for client submission and recording.
- Provide expert guidance and technical support to field personnel and project managers.
- Maintain and ensure adherence to all relevant state licensing boards’ rules and regulations.
- Utilize surveying software (e.g., Carlson, Trimble Business Center, Autodesk Civil 3D) and GIS tools for analysis.
What You Bring (Requirements)
We need a proactive problem-solver with a steadfast commitment to accuracy. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Licensure: Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in good standing in at least one US state. The ability to obtain licensure in additional states within 6-12 months is a strong plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land surveying, with at least 2 years in a reviewing, supervisory, or managing role.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skill in interpreting legal descriptions, metes and bounds, and survey plats. Mastery of CAD software (AutoCivil, MicroStation) and surveying data processing packages.
- Remote Work Aptitude: Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and communicate clearly in a fully remote, collaborative environment using tools like Microsoft Teams, Slack, and cloud-based document systems.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent extensive professional experience.
Compensation & Benefits
Your expertise is valued. For this remote Surveyor position, we offer a comprehensive compensation package:
- Estimated Annual Salary Range: $85,000 – $115,000 USD. Final offer depends on experience, licensure portfolio, and proven ability to manage complex multi-state projects.
- Performance Bonus: Eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance and individual contributions.
- Full Remote Flexibility: Work from anywhere within the United States. No commuting, with a focus on output and results.
- Technology Stipend: A generous annual allowance to maintain and upgrade your home office hardware and software.
- Health & Wellness: Premium medical, dental, and vision insurance plans (90% employer-paid for employee-only coverage).
- Retirement Security: 401(k) plan with a 4% company match.
- Professional Growth: Annual stipend for continuing education, license renewal fees, and professional association memberships.
- Paid Time Off: Generous PTO policy including holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
- Team Connection: Annual all-company in-person retreat and regular virtual team-building events.
