<a href="https://wehired.agency/jobs/" style="color:var(--primary-color); font-weight:600;">Remote</a> Fire Engineer Job: Protect What Matters Most from Anywhere

Imagine your work directly preventing catastrophic loss and saving lives, all from the comfort and focus of your home office. We are seeking a talented and passionate Fire Engineer to join our distributed team, where you’ll architect fire protection strategies for landmark projects worldwide without ever needing to relocate. This is a unique opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge to meaningful work with complete autonomy and flexibility.

About the Role: Engineering Safety Without Boundaries

As a Remote Fire Engineer, you will be the cornerstone of our project teams, responsible for the complete fire engineering lifecycle. You will move beyond traditional code compliance to develop innovative, performance-based solutions for complex buildings and infrastructure. Using advanced modeling software like FDS, PyroSim, and AutoCAD, you will conduct fire dynamics simulations, smoke control analysis, and egress modeling. Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with architects, structural engineers, and contractors via video calls and shared digital platforms, producing detailed reports, calculations, and drawings that form the legal and safety backbone of our projects. You will own your projects from initial hazard analysis through to final commissioning and client sign-off, seeing your designs through to real-world implementation.

Compensation & Benefits: Valued Expertise, Total Freedom

Salary Range

We offer a highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and expertise. For this role, the estimated total compensation range is $90,000 – $140,000 USD/year. This includes a base salary and is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus reflecting your project success and contribution to our firm’s growth.

Why This Remote Role is Different

  • True Location Independence: Work from wherever you thrive. We provide the tools and trust; you provide the expertise. Occasional travel for major client workshops or project site visits (pre-commissioning) may be required, but your home base is your choice.
  • Impact-Driven Projects: No repetitive, low-stakes work. You’ll tackle high-profile projects including airports, museums, data centers, and high-rise towers where your engineering judgment has tangible, critical importance.
  • Professional Growth Stipend: An annual budget for certifications (like PE license renewal), advanced software training, conferences, and professional memberships (SFPE, NFPA).
  • Premium Home Office Setup: A one-time allowance to create your optimal workspace, including ergonomic furniture, multiple monitors, and high-speed internet support.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Full health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family, 401(k) with company match, generous paid time off, and a flexible schedule that respects your peak productivity hours.
  • Collaborative, Expert Culture: Join a supportive network of senior fire engineers and designers. We believe in knowledge sharing, mentorship, and a no-ego environment where the best idea wins.

Requirements: The Blueprint for Your Success

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fire engineering consulting, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
  • Mastery of NFPA codes and standards, and a proven ability to develop performance-based design alternatives.
  • Expert proficiency in fire modeling software (e.g., FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder, STEPS) and CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to non-engineers and clients.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and proficient in managing projects and deadlines in a remote setting.

Nice-to-Have Attributes

  • Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Experience with international fire codes (e.g., BS, Eurocodes).
  • Background in special hazard suppression systems (e.g., clean agents, water mist, foam).
  • Previous experience working fully remotely in a client-facing engineering role.
  • Active membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

Our Culture: Autonomy, Excellence, and Trust

We are a forward-thinking firm that dismantled the traditional office years ago. We measure output, not hours. We value deep work, intellectual curiosity, and a solutions-oriented mindset. You will have significant autonomy over your schedule and project approach, supported by a leadership team that is always accessible for technical discussion and career guidance. We are united by a shared mission: to make the built environment fundamentally safer through brilliant engineering. If you are tired of bureaucratic inertia and crave a role where your technical skill directly translates to protecting people and property, this is your team.

Ready to Engineer Safety from Your Sanctuary?

This is more than a job; it’s a career-defining opportunity for a Fire Engineer who wants to control their environment, work on iconic projects, and be compensated at the top of their field. If you are a licensed PE with a proven track record and a desire for a boundary-less career, we want to see your work.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing your most challenging fire engineering project and your approach, and links to a portfolio of redacted project reports or calculations (if available) via our careers portal. We review every application with care and will contact qualified candidates for a introductory virtual meeting.
