About the Role

As a Remote Estimator, you will be the financial backbone of our pre‑construction phase. You’ll analyze project plans, quantify materials, labor, and equipment, and produce detailed cost estimates that drive winning proposals. Your expertise directly influences project profitability and client satisfaction, making this position critical to our growth across commercial, institutional, and infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Estimate Development

  • Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to create comprehensive quantity takeoffs.
  • Apply current market pricing for materials, subcontractor rates, and labor productivity factors.
  • Build and maintain a centralized cost database that reflects regional variations.

Bid Preparation & Review

  • Assemble complete bid packages, including scope narratives, assumptions, and risk registers.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to validate scope completeness.
  • Present estimate summaries to senior leadership for go/no‑go decisions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Track estimate‑vs‑actual performance on awarded projects to refine future models.
  • Implement estimating software enhancements (e.g., ProEst, Sage, or Bluebeam) to boost efficiency.
  • Mentor junior estimators and share best‑practice templates across the remote team.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial estimating experience, with at least 2 years in a fully remote capacity.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in estimating platforms such as ProEst, Sage Estimating, or HCSS HeavyBid.
  • Advanced Excel modeling (pivot tables, macros, Power Query).
  • Familiarity with BIM tools (Navisworks, Revit) for 3‑D quantity extraction.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for virtual collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.

Salary Range

$78,000 – $112,000 USD per year, commensurate with experience, certifications (e.g., CPE, CEP), and geographic cost‑of‑living adjustments.

Benefits & Perks

  • 100 % remote work – no office commute, ever.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans with employer‑paid premiums.
  • 401(k) with 4 % company match and immediate vesting.
  • Annual professional development stipend ($2,500) for courses, certifications, or conferences.
  • Flexible PTO policy plus 10 paid holidays.
  • Home‑office setup allowance ($1,200) and monthly internet reimbursement.
  • Quarterly virtual team‑building events and an annual in‑person retreat (optional).

Culture & Values

Apex Construction Solutions thrives on transparency, accountability, and continuous learning. Our remote-first culture is built on trust: we measure outcomes, not hours online. Estimators are empowered to own their pipelines, propose process improvements, and directly influence the company’s strategic direction. Diversity of thought is celebrated, and every team member has a voice in shaping our estimating standards.

How to Succeed in This Role

Success means delivering estimates that win profitable work while maintaining a margin of error under 3 %. You’ll achieve this by leveraging our proprietary cost database, staying current on material market trends, and maintaining open communication with project teams across time zones. Proactive risk identification and clear documentation of assumptions set our estimates apart from the competition.
