About the Role
As a Remote Estimator, you will be the financial architect behind our project bids, translating blueprints and specifications into winning, accurate cost proposals. You will own the full estimation lifecycle from initial takeoff to final bid submission, ensuring competitiveness and profitability. Core Responsibilities
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis for commercial building projects (healthcare, education, corporate).
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including direct costs, indirect costs, and profit margins.
- Solicit, analyze, and integrate subcontractor and supplier quotes into final estimates.
- Review project plans and specifications to identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
- Collaborate with preconstruction and project management teams to ensure estimate alignment with project feasibility and execution plans.
- Maintain and update historical cost databases to improve future estimate accuracy.
- Present bid strategies and defend estimates during client and internal review meetings.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on estimating experience in the commercial construction industry.
- Proven track record of preparing successful, competitive bids for projects ranging from $2M to $50M.
- Mastery of estimating software such as ProEst, Bluebeam Revu, PlanGrid, or similar. Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) is non-negotiable.
- Deep understanding of construction means, methods, materials, and associated costs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear remote collaboration.
- Self-motivated with exceptional time management to meet strict deadlines in a home-office environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience and proven bid success. A discretionary annual performance bonus based on company and personal profitability targets is also part of the package.
