Are you a hands-on tech wizard who loves solving complex puzzles under pressure? We are seeking a skilled Remote Datacenter Technician to join our elite infrastructure team. In this critical role, you will be on the front lines of digital reliability, managing and maintaining the physical backbone of the cloud for top-tier clients, all from the comfort of your home office. If you have a passion for hardware, a knack for rapid troubleshooting, and want a career that truly powers the modern world, this is your opportunity.

About the Role: The Digital World’s First Responder

As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you are the essential link between our software-driven monitoring systems and the physical hardware that runs the internet. You will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and rapid repair of server, storage, and network equipment within our globally distributed data centers. This is not a passive monitoring role; it is an active, hands-on position requiring you to execute complex physical tasks, often guided by real-time alerts and remote specialists. Your work directly ensures the uptime and performance that our clients depend on for their businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hardware Deployment & Racking: Physically install, cable, and rack new server, storage, and networking gear following precise documentation and safety protocols.
  • Rapid Incident Response: Respond to critical alerts (P1/P2) by performing remote-guided hands-on interventions, including hardware swaps, component replacements (PSU, fans, drives, RAM), and power/cooling issue resolution.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled audits, firmware updates, and hardware inspections to preempt failures and maintain optimal environmental conditions.
  • Inventory & Documentation: Meticulously track asset inventories, update CMDBs, and document all work performed with high accuracy in our ticketing and management systems.
  • Remote Collaboration: Work seamlessly with on-site teams, NOC engineers, and vendors via video, chat, and phone to diagnose and resolve issues that require physical presence.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all data center safety, security, and compliance procedures, including ESD protection, proper lifting techniques, and access control protocols.

Compensation & Benefits

We believe in compensating top talent competitively and supporting their total well-being.

  • Salary Range: $52,000 – $78,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience, certifications, and proven ability. Overtime opportunities are available for eligible incident response work.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Including medical, dental, and vision insurance (90% employer-paid for employee-only coverage), a 401(k) plan with company match, and generous paid time off (PTO) and holidays.
  • Remote Work Stipend: A monthly allowance to support your home office setup and high-speed internet connection.
  • Career Growth: Access to a continuous learning budget for certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Network+, vendor-specific tracks) and clear pathways for advancement into senior technician, specialist, or engineering roles.
  • Tools & Technology: You will be provided with the latest diagnostic tools, a high-performance laptop, and access to cutting-edge infrastructure.

Requirements: The Ideal Candidate

Technical Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a datacenter, server lab, or enterprise IT hardware support role.
  • Expert-level ability to physically handle, identify, and replace server hardware components (motherboards, drives, power supplies, memory, RAID controllers).
  • Strong understanding of server form factors (1U, 2U, blades), cabling standards (Cat6, fiber), and power distribution (PDUs, UPS).
  • Familiarity with server BIOS/UEFI settings, RAID configuration, and OS installation/imaging processes.
  • Proficiency with remote management tools (iDRAC, iLO, IMM) and basic networking concepts (IP addressing, VLANs, port flapping).
  • CompTIA A+ and Server+ certifications (or equivalent experience) are highly desirable.

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain focused and methodical during high-severity outages and tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional Communication: Crystal-clear written and verbal skills for detailed remote collaboration and ticket documentation.
  • Self-Motivated & Disciplined: Proven ability to work independently, manage your time, and follow strict procedural checklists without direct supervision.
  • Detail-Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail in cabling, labeling, and documentation to prevent human-error-induced incidents.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills (e.g., working in tight rack spaces).
  • Authorized to work in the United States. Must reside in the U.S. and be able to travel to a designated datacenter site for initial training and potential periodic on-site engagements (travel costs covered).
