Take the helm of complex, high-stakes projects that power communities. We are seeking a seasoned Commissioning Manager to oversee the final, critical phases of major energy and utility infrastructure builds from anywhere in the world. This is a pivotal role where your expertise ensures safety, functionality, and seamless project handover.

About the Role

As our Remote Commissioning Manager, you will be the ultimate authority during the systems integration and startup phase for large-scale energy facilities (e.g., substations, generation plants, transmission lines). You will lead a distributed team of engineers and technicians, developing and executing meticulous commissioning plans to validate that every component—from electrical and control systems to mechanical and HVAC—operates flawlessly and meets all contractual and regulatory specifications. Your mission is to transform constructed assets into fully operational, reliable power sources, ensuring a smooth transition to operations and long-term client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive commissioning scopes, schedules, and procedures aligned with project contracts and safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, OSHA).
  • Lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including system verification, loop checks, functional testing, and performance testing.
  • Manage a team of commissioning engineers, leads, and technicians, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to quality and safety protocols.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and vendors during the commissioning phase, leading meetings and resolving discrepancies.
  • Oversee the creation and management of all commissioning documentation: test procedures, checklists, punch lists, turnover packages, and as-built records.
  • Conduct thorough hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and safety reviews prior to system energization.
  • Track and report on commissioning progress, budget, and key metrics to senior project management.
  • Ensure all systems are fully operational and trained on before final project acceptance.

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in commissioning, ideally within the energy, utility, or heavy industrial sector (power generation, transmission, or distribution).
  • Proven track record as a Commissioning Manager or Lead Commissioning Engineer on projects valued at $50M+.
  • Expert-level knowledge of electrical power systems (medium/high voltage), SCADA/control systems, and associated instrumentation.
  • Mastery of commissioning processes, safety standards (OSHA, NFPA), and quality assurance protocols.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness for occasional travel (10-15%) to project sites for critical milestones and team oversight.
  • Proficient with project management software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and commissioning management tools.

Preferred Attributes

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise systems for project tracking.
  • Certifications such as PMP, CCM (Certified Commissioning Manager), or CFCP (Certified Functional Commissioning Provider).

What We Offer

We believe in rewarding excellence and supporting your success. This is a full-time, 100% remote role with a competitive compensation package designed for top-tier talent.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $130,000 – $170,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience and project responsibility.
  • Performance Bonus: Eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on company and project performance.
  • Remote Work Stipend: Annual allowance to optimize your home office setup for maximum productivity.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance with significant employer contribution. 401(k) with company match.
  • Time Off: Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) policy to support your work-life balance.
  • Professional Development: Annual budget for certifications, conferences, and training to keep your skills at the industry forefront.
  • Equipment: Company-provided laptop and necessary software licenses.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a decisive, technically brilliant leader who thrives in the high-pressure environment of project closeout. You have a deep-seated commitment to safety and quality, viewing commissioning not as a phase but as the final and most important guarantee of a project’s success. You are adept at building consensus, diagnosing complex system issues, and inspiring a remote team to achieve flawless execution. You are looking for a role where your experience directly impacts the reliability of critical national infrastructure and want to do it with the flexibility and focus that remote work provides.
