About the Role

As a Remote Background Investigator, you will be on the front line of risk mitigation for our clients across various industries. You will manage a caseload of investigations, utilizing proprietary databases, public records, and direct source outreach to verify employment history, education, criminal records, and professional licenses. Your work ensures our clients make informed, confident decisions. This is a results-driven role that offers complete location independence while requiring a high degree of self-motivation and disciplined time management.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive background investigations adhering to strict legal guidelines (FCRA, state regulations) and company protocols.
• Perform detailed verifications via telephone, email, and online research for employment, education, references, and personal history.
• Access and analyze data from national criminal databases, county court records, and credit bureaus (as applicable and permissible).
• Interview subjects and references professionally to gather factual information and clarify discrepancies.
• Analyze all collected data, synthesize findings, and write clear, concise, and objective investigative summary reports.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive personal information with the utmost integrity.
• Manage your own pipeline of cases to meet agreed-upon turnaround times and quality standards.

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

• Proven experience (2+ years) in background investigation, pre-employment screening, due diligence, or a closely related investigative field.
• Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with an unwavering attention to detail.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills for professional client and source interactions.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based research tools.
• A dedicated, private home workspace with a reliable high-speed internet connection.
• Unquestionable ethical standards and personal integrity.
• Ability to pass a thorough background check as a condition of employment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with specific background screening software (e.g., CredentialCheck, Checkr, GoodHire).
• Prior experience working remotely in a target-driven, independent role.
• Knowledge of state-specific investigative laws and regulations.
• Certifications such as Certified Background Investigator (CBI) or Professional Investigator License (PIL).

Salary Range & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $52,000 – $78,000 USD per year, commensurate with your experience, skill level, and caseload capacity. This is a full-time, exempt position.
