About the Role: The Pulse of the ICU
As a Registered Nurse in our 24-bed state-of-the-art ICU, you will manage a 1:2 patient ratio for the most critically ill adults, including post-operative cardiothoracic, medical, surgical, and trauma patients. You will operate at the top of your license, utilizing sophisticated monitoring systems, managing multiple IV infusions (including vasoactive drips), and performing complex assessments. Your day is a dynamic blend of high-stakes decision-making, meticulous documentation, and profound human connection. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team including intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and perfusionists, all united by a single goal: optimal patient outcomes. This role demands a calm, decisive leader who can navigate the rapid pace of a tertiary care center while providing the unwavering support families need during their darkest hours.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Impact
Clinical Mastery & Direct Patient Care
- Perform comprehensive assessments and rapid interventions for patients with life-threatening conditions.
- Administer and titrate complex medication regimens, including vasopressors, sedatives, and paralytics, with precise hemodynamic monitoring.
- Manage invasive lines: arterial lines, central venous catheters (including PICC and tunneled), pulmonary artery catheters, and ventricular assist devices.
- Interpret and respond to complex data from cardiac monitors, ventilators (including weaning protocols), and intracranial pressure monitors.
- Execute advanced procedures such as chest tube management, tracheostomy care, and emergency response as part of the hospital’s Rapid Response Team.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a clinical resource and mentor for new graduate nurses and other unit staff.
- Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds, advocating for your patient’s plan of care.
- Ensure seamless, safe patient transfers within and outside the facility.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice projects to elevate unit standards.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) considered with significant relevant ICU experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent, full-time acute care medical-surgical or critical care nursing experience.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Strong medication math skills and proficiency with electronic health records (Epic experience preferred).
Preferred “Wow” Factors
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.
- Experience with ECMO, CRRT, or advanced cardiac monitoring.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or similar certification.
- Demonstrated precepting or charge nurse experience.

Salary Range
We offer a highly competitive salary range of $78,000 – $98,000 annually, commensurate with your critical care experience, certifications (especially CCRN), and shift differentials. Night and weekend differentials apply.
