Job Summary
The Residential Counselor position at Our Healing Center in Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, provides direct care and support to youth in foster care. This full‑time, part‑time, or on‑call role offers competitive hourly pay that advances with experience and promotion.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily residential supervision, counseling, and crisis intervention for foster youth.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with mental health specialists.
- Maintain a safe, supportive living environment during weekdays, weekends, overnight, and on‑call shifts.
- Document resident progress, incidents, and treatment outcomes in compliance with state regulations.
- Facilitate group activities, life‑skills training, and educational support.
- Coordinate with social workers, case managers, and external service providers to ensure comprehensive care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; related coursework in psychology, social work, or counseling preferred.
- Prior experience working with at‑risk youth or in residential settings.
- Strong communication, empathy, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Background check and clearance to work with vulnerable populations.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary $61,671.68 (equivalent to $20/hr, increasing to $21/hr after 90 days). Promotion pathways: Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist at $23/hr and Lead Counselor at $25/hr. Health care plans, retirement options, and paid time off are available.
