About the Role

As our Fire Engineer, you will be at the forefront of fire safety innovation. You’ll lead the design, analysis, and evaluation of fire protection systems (sprinklers, alarms, suppression) for complex commercial and institutional buildings. Your work will involve conducting fire risk assessments, developing fire safety plans, and ensuring all projects comply with stringent local, state, and national fire codes (including NFPA 80, 101, 70, and 25). You’ll collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and clients to integrate fire safety seamlessly into building designs and renovations, ensuring occupant safety and regulatory compliance from conception through construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform fire hazard analyses and risk assessments for new and existing structures.
• Design, specify, and review fire protection systems (sprinklers, standpipes, alarms, smoke control, fire pumps).
• Develop comprehensive fire safety plans and evacuation strategies.
• Ensure all designs and recommendations meet or exceed applicable fire codes and standards.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and construction drawings.
• Provide expert witness testimony and consultation during plan reviews and code enforcement.
• Stay abreast of evolving fire protection technologies and code updates.

Requirements

We seek a candidate with a proven track record and the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fire protection engineering, with a focus on building design and code compliance.
• Strong proficiency in fire modeling software (e.g., FDS, CFAST) and CAD/BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• Excellent knowledge of NFPA 80, 101, 70, 25, and other relevant fire codes and standards.
• Proven experience in preparing construction documents, specifications, and permit applications.
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State (NY) is required.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
