About the Role

As a Cybersecurity Specialist in Alaska, you will be at the forefront of defending the state's critical infrastructure and sensitive data. You will play a pivotal role in identifying vulnerabilities, implementing robust security measures, and responding to incidents within Alaska's unique operational landscape. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on state systems and critical infrastructure.
  • Implement and manage security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint security solutions.
  • Develop, document, and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards aligned with Alaska's requirements and best practices.
  • Investigate security incidents, analyze forensic data, and lead containment and eradication efforts.
  • Provide security awareness training and guidance to state employees and partners.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., federal agencies, utility providers) to ensure coordinated security efforts.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in cybersecurity roles, including vulnerability management and incident response.
  • Proven experience with network security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, network segmentation).
  • Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and common application vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote or distributed environment, often requiring flexible hours.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CEH, GSEC, or equivalent highly valued.
  • Experience with SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) platforms and log analysis.
  • Familiarity with cloud security principles and tools (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Experience with security scripting (Python, PowerShell) for automation and analysis.
  • Understanding of Alaska's specific regulatory environment and critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
