<a href="https://wehired.agency/jobs/" style="color:var(--primary-color); font-weight:600;">Remote</a> Water Resources Engineer Job: Shape America’s Water Future

Join a pioneering engineering firm dedicated to sustainable water management and climate resilience. As a fully remote Water Resources Engineer, you’ll lead impactful projects in hydrology, hydraulic modeling, and floodplain analysis, directly contributing to safer communities and healthier ecosystems. This role offers unparalleled flexibility, a collaborative virtual environment, and the chance to tackle the nation’s most pressing water infrastructure issues.

Salary Range

$85,000 – $120,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience, professional engineering licensure, and project leadership capability.

About the Role

You will design, analyze, and optimize water resource systems for diverse projects across the United States, including stormwater management, watershed planning, dam and levee assessments, and water supply studies. Utilizing advanced software like HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, and GIS, you will develop innovative solutions that balance engineering rigor with environmental stewardship. Working remotely, you’ll join a distributed team of experts, participating in virtual design workshops, client meetings, and peer reviews while managing your project deliverables with autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses for flood risk mapping, drainage design, and channel restoration.
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications (including Section 404 and NEPA documents), and construction plans.
  • Develop watershed models and water balance studies for municipal and industrial clients.
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, civil engineers, and planners to integrate sustainable design practices.
  • Lead client presentations and serve as a technical authority on water resource principles.
  • Stay current with federal and state regulations (FEMA, USACE, EPA) and industry best practices.

Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in water resources engineering.
  • Expert proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and GIS (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS).
  • Proven experience writing technical reports and navigating regulatory permitting processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration.
  • U.S. citizenship or authorized work status (due to federal project requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS 2D, TUFLOW).
  • Familiarity with stormwater modeling software (SWMM, InfoWorks ICM).
  • Background in dam safety inspections or levee certification (FEMA guidelines).
  • Prior remote work experience and proficiency with collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, Asana).

Benefits & Perks

We invest in our team’s well-being and professional growth, offering a comprehensive remote-first benefits package:

  • Flexible PTO & Sick Leave: Generous, untracked time off to recharge.
  • Health & Wellness: 100% premium-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees; robust options for families.
