Lead the charge in fire safety innovation as a fully remote Fire Engineer. In this critical role, you will design, analyze, and optimize fire protection systems for diverse global projects, all from your home office. We seek a licensed professional dedicated to saving lives and property through cutting-edge engineering solutions, offering unparalleled flexibility and impact.

About the Role

As a Remote Fire Engineer, you will be the technical cornerstone for our fire protection engineering projects. You will take ownership of complex system designs, perform detailed fire modeling and risk assessments, and ensure all deliverables comply with stringent international codes (NFPA, IBC, etc.) and local regulations. This is not a desk-bound review role; it is a hands-on design and analysis position where your expertise directly shapes the safety of buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure. You will collaborate with architectural, mechanical, and electrical teams in a distributed environment, using advanced software like AutoCAD, PyroSim, and Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) to create life-saving designs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and specify comprehensive fire protection systems, including sprinklers, standpipes, detection/alarm systems, and smoke control.
  • Conduct fire hazard analyses, egress modeling, and quantitative risk assessments for new and existing structures.
  • Perform thorough plan reviews and site surveys to ensure design intent is maintained during construction.
  • Develop technical reports, specifications, and presentations for clients and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Stay at the forefront of industry standards, emerging technologies (like water mist systems), and sustainable design practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to our internal knowledge base.

Requirements: The Expert We Need

We require a proactive, detail-oriented engineer who thrives in an independent remote setting. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. You must have a proven track record of completing fire engineering projects from conception to construction administration.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Active P.E. License in any U.S. state or Canadian province (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in fire protection engineering consulting or design.
  • Mastery of NFPA codes and standards, International Building Code (IBC), and local amendments.
  • Proficiency with fire modeling software (FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder) and CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote client and team interactions.
  • Self-motivation and exceptional time management in a home-office environment.

Preferred Attributes

  • Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Experience with performance-based design approaches and alternative methods.
  • Background in high-hazard industries (oil & gas, chemical, manufacturing).
  • Certification such as Certified Fire Protection Engineer (CFPE).

Compensation & Benefits

This is a senior-level, exempt position with a competitive compensation package reflecting your expertise and the critical nature of the work.

Salary Range

$110,000 – $150,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience, license, and proven project leadership. A discretionary annual performance bonus is also available based on company and individual success metrics.

Comprehensive Remote-First Benefits

  • True Location Independence: Work from anywhere. This is a remote job for residents of any location, with no mandatory office visits.
  • Flexible PTO & Schedule: Generous paid time off and flexible working hours to support your life.
  • Top-Tier Health & Wellness: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and family.
  • Future Security: 401(k) with a 4% company match and immediate vesting.
  • Home Office Stipend: Annual budget to optimize your remote workspace.
  • Professional Development: Annual budget for conferences, certifications, and continuing education.
