Step into the critical engine room of the digital age as a Remote Datacenter Technician. You’ll be the frontline expert ensuring the relentless uptime of cloud servers and network infrastructure for a global technology firm, all while enjoying the freedom of a 100% remote workstyle. This isn’t just a tech job; it’s a mission-critical role where your hands-on expertise directly powers the online services millions rely on every second.

About the Role: The Backbone of the Cloud

As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you are the physical guardian of the virtual world. While you won’t be in a traditional bunker, your home office becomes your command center for remotely diagnosing, troubleshooting, and guiding on-site personnel through complex hardware and facility issues. You’ll leverage advanced remote management tools, IPMI/iDRAC/ILO interfaces, and ticketing systems to monitor server health, manage power distribution, and resolve critical alerts. Your day involves deep dives into hardware logs, coordinating with remote “hands and eyes” teams for cabling or component swaps, and ensuring environmental controls (cooling, power) are optimal. You’ll be part of a global follow-the-sun NOC team, providing 24/7 coverage for a high-availability infrastructure that demands perfection.

Core Daily Missions

  • Remote Hardware Triage: Log into servers and network gear via out-of-band management to diagnose failed drives, memory errors, or power supply issues.
  • Incident Command: Lead the technical response for data center alerts, creating clear runbooks for on-site staff to execute physical repairs.
  • Proactive Health Monitoring: Analyze trends in temperature, power usage, and system performance to predict and prevent failures before they impact customers.
  • Documentation & Process: Meticulously document all actions, root causes, and resolutions to build a knowledge base that elevates the entire team’s efficiency.

What You Bring: The Technical & Mental Fortitude

We need a self-motivated problem-solver who thrives in high-pressure, asynchronous environments. The ideal candidate is as comfortable with a command line as they are with clear, calm communication under fire.

Essential Technical Proficiencies

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with server hardware (Dell, HPE, Supermicro) and networking gear (Cisco, Arista).
  • Expert-level ability to use remote management consoles (iDRAC, iLO, XCC) for OS-level troubleshooting, media mounting, and console redirection.
  • Strong understanding of Linux/Windows Server boot processes, RAID configurations, and basic networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, SSH).
  • Familiarity with DC infrastructure: PDU management, CRAC units, and basic electrical concepts (single/three-phase power).
  • Proficiency with ticketing systems (Jira, ServiceNow) and remote collaboration tools (Slack, Zoom).

The Right Mindset

  • Ownership & Initiative: You see an alert and immediately start forming a hypothesis and action plan.
  • Clear Communicator: You can explain a complex hardware failure and its fix to both a senior engineer and a junior on-site tech in simple terms.
  • Resilience: You handle major incidents with a calm, methodical approach, understanding that customer data is at stake.
  • Autonomy: You are a master of your own schedule, managing your on-call shifts and deep work periods without direct supervision.

Preferred Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or vendor-specific hardware certifications (DCE, HCISPP a plus).

Compensation & Benefits: Valued Expertise, Total Flexibility

This is a senior-level technical role with a competitive compensation package that recognizes the critical nature of your work.

Salary Range

$65,000 – $85,000 USD/Year (Based on experience, certifications, and demonstrated expertise in remote datacenter operations).

Remote-First Benefits Package

  • True Location Independence: Work from anywhere in your country. We provide a generous home office stipend to optimize your workspace.
  • Comprehensive Health & Wellness: Premium medical, dental, and vision plans with substantial company contribution. Mental health support included.
  • Financial Security: 401(k) with generous company match, stock options or equity grants for all employees.
  • Unlimited PTO & Disconnect: We measure output, not hours. Take the time you need, with a minimum company-mandated vacation to ensure you recharge.
  • Growth Fund: Annual budget for certifications, courses, and conferences to keep your skills at the industry’s cutting edge.
  • Top-Tier Gear: You choose your primary laptop and peripherals. We provide secondary monitors, headsets, and any specialized remote access hardware.
