About The Role: The First Employee, The Last Word

You are the spark and the engine. In this role, you will take a validated market concept and a committed seed investment and transform it into a thriving, scalable business. You will report directly to the initial investors and a board of advisors, but day-to-day, you are the CEO. Your canvas includes defining the product roadmap, building the initial team, establishing the go-to-market strategy, and shaping the company’s core values and culture from day one. This is not a VP of Something; this is the “something” itself.

What You’ll Own From Day One:

  • Product Vision & Development: Lead the creation and iteration of our core offering, working with an initial tech partner or hiring your first engineer.
  • Market Strategy & Traction: Define and execute the plan to acquire the first 100 customers and achieve product-market fit.
  • Team Building: Hire the first 5-10 team members, setting the standard for talent and ethos.
  • Fundraising Narrative: Craft the story and data to secure our Seed and Series A rounds, with full support from our backers.
  • Culture & Operations: Establish the operational rhythms, communication styles, and cultural bedrock for the entire company.

Requirements: The Founder Mindset

This role demands more than a resume; it demands a psychology. We are looking for a proven operator with the grit of a bootstrapper and the strategic mind of a scale-up leader.

Must-Have Experience & Traits:

  • Proven Entrepreneurial Track Record: You have started something before—a business, a major product line, a significant initiative. You have experienced both the thrill of early traction and the pressure of a near-death moment. A prior exit is a strong plus but not required.
  • Full-Cycle Ownership: You are comfortable with the entire business lifecycle: ideation, validation, building, launching, selling, and scaling. You can write a user story, close a pilot deal, and draft a financial model.
  • Relentless Resourcefulness: You can achieve outsized results with limited capital. You know how to hack growth, leverage networks, and make “no budget” feel like an advantage.
  • Exceptional Communication & Storytelling: You can inspire a new hire with a vision at 11 PM, present a compelling case to investors, and explain complex technology simply to a potential customer.
  • Radical Accountability: You own outcomes, not just activities. You are data-informed but intuition-tested. You make decisions with imperfect information and course-correct without ego.

Compensation & Equity: True Partnership

This is not a standard salary job. Your compensation is designed to align your success directly with the company’s success.

  • Base Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 USD/year (negotiable based on experience and runway needs). This provides stability during the intense build phase.
  • Founder’s Equity: 15% – 25% fully vested over a standard 4-year schedule, with a 1-year cliff. This is your ownership stake in the legacy you build. The exact percentage is determined by your proven experience, the initial capital you help secure, and your specific commitment.
  • Performance Pool: Additional equity grants tied to hitting major milestones (Product-Market Fit, Seed Close, First $1M ARR).
