This remote Datacenter Technician role is ideal for technical professionals who want to support enterprise data center operations from home. You will monitor infrastructure health, troubleshoot tickets, coordinate remote-hands activity, document incidents, and help keep cloud and hosting environments reliable.

About the Remote Datacenter Technician Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented Remote Datacenter Technician to join a growing infrastructure support team. This is a 100% remote / work from home position designed for candidates who understand server environments, networking basics, hardware troubleshooting, and data center operations but prefer to deliver support from a fully remote setting.

In this role, you will not be assigned to an office, client site, or physical data center shift. Instead, you will support infrastructure teams remotely through monitoring tools, ticketing systems, vendor coordination, remote-hands dispatch, and technical documentation. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals seeking a stable remote IT job in cloud infrastructure, managed hosting, colocation, or enterprise data center support.

What You Will Do

Monitor Data Center Infrastructure

Track alerts, review system health dashboards, identify hardware or connectivity issues, and escalate incidents according to defined procedures. You will help ensure uptime, performance, and availability across customer environments and internal platforms.

Troubleshoot Technical Issues

Investigate server, storage, network, and virtualization-related incidents. You may review logs, validate power and cooling alerts, confirm circuit status, check switch connectivity, and support root-cause analysis for recurring infrastructure problems.

Coordinate Remote-Hands Activity

When physical action is required inside a data center, you will guide approved on-site technicians through tasks such as reseating cables, checking device status lights, replacing approved components, or confirming hardware installation steps.

Manage Tickets and Documentation

Create, update, and resolve support tickets with clear technical notes. You will document incidents, maintain knowledge base articles, record change details, and ensure communication is accurate, timely, and easy for technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in data center operations, IT support, infrastructure support, NOC support, or server hardware troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of servers, storage, networking fundamentals, cabling, power systems, and basic virtualization concepts.
  • Comfortable using ticketing platforms, monitoring tools, remote access software, and documentation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Linux or Windows server environments and interpret alerts, logs, and incident reports.
  • Excellent written communication skills for remote collaboration across technical teams, vendors, and customers.
  • Reliable high-speed internet, a quiet home workspace, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when documenting incidents, changes, and escalation steps.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, CCNA, Microsoft, Linux, or cloud infrastructure certifications.
  • Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or managed hosting environments.
  • Familiarity with SNMP monitoring, Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, Datadog, ServiceNow, Jira, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, SAN/NAS storage, and enterprise backup systems.

Salary Range

Estimated Salary Range: $52,000 – $72,000 USD per year.

Compensation may vary depending on experience, certifications, technical depth, shift availability, and prior data center or infrastructure support background. This salary range reflects current industry standards for remote technical support roles focused on data center operations, NOC support, and cloud infrastructure coordination.

Benefits

  • 100% remote work from home schedule with no required office attendance.
  • Opportunity to build a long-term career in data center operations, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise IT support.
  • Exposure to enterprise-grade servers, networks, monitoring systems, and incident management workflows.
  • Collaborative remote team environment with structured processes and technical mentorship.
  • Professional growth path into senior technician, NOC engineer, cloud support specialist, infrastructure analyst, or data center operations roles.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position for candidates seeking a work from home Datacenter Technician role. You will work with digital tools, remote monitoring platforms, ticket queues, and virtual communication channels. Physical data center tasks are coordinated through approved remote-hands teams, allowing you to provide technical leadership and troubleshooting support without commuting or reporting to a physical facility.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, highly organized, and comfortable solving technical problems through remote tools and clear documentation. If you enjoy infrastructure operations, server support, network troubleshooting, and customer-focused technical service, this remote Datacenter Technician opportunity offers a strong path into the growing cloud and data center support market.
