Remote Datacenter Technician – Join a Leading Cloud Infrastructure Team (Work From Anywhere)

As a Remote Datacenter Technician, you will ensure the smooth operation of critical server hardware and networking equipment from the comfort of your home office. This role blends hands‑on technical expertise with remote monitoring tools to keep global cloud services running 24/7. If you thrive on solving hardware puzzles and enjoy a flexible work environment, this opportunity is built for you.

About the Role

Our client is a fast‑growing cloud provider that operates multiple hyperscale data centers across North America, Europe, and Asia. While the facilities themselves are located in secure, climate‑controlled sites, the monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks are performed remotely by a distributed team of technicians. You will be the first line of defense for hardware alerts, firmware updates, and physical‑layer issues, coordinating with on‑site partners when a hands‑on intervention is required.

What You’ll Do

• Monitor server health, power, and environmental sensors via centralized dashboards.
• Perform remote power cycles, firmware upgrades, and configuration changes on rack‑mounted equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware faults such as DIMM failures, NIC issues, and storage controller errors.
• Coordinate with field engineers to schedule and verify on‑site replacements or repairs.
• Maintain accurate asset records in the CMDB and document all interventions in ticketing systems.
• Participate in on‑call rotation to provide after‑hours support for critical incidents.
• Contribute to process improvements by suggesting automation scripts and monitoring enhancements.

Requirements

Technical Skills

• Hands‑on experience with x86 server hardware (Dell, HPE, Supermicro) and networking gear (Cisco, Juniper, Arista).
• Solid understanding of IPMI, iLO, iDRAC, and other out‑of‑band management interfaces.
• Familiarity with Linux and Windows Server operating systems for basic OS‑level troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of data center power distribution, cooling, and environmental monitoring standards.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and hardware manuals.
• Proficiency with ticketing systems (ServiceNow, JIRA Service Desk) and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Datadog, Zabbix).

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of data center hardware support or a related IT infrastructure role.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA, or vendor‑specific hardware training are a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and stakeholder updates.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently while adhering to shift schedules and on‑call rotations.
• Reliable high‑speed internet connection and a dedicated quiet workspace at home.

Benefits

Compensation & Perks

• Competitive salary range: $45,000 – $65,000 USD per year (based on experience and location).
• Full health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
• 401(k) with company match.
• Paid time off, holidays, and parental leave.
• Annual stipend for home office equipment and internet upgrades.
• Access to online learning platforms (Pluralsight, Udemy) and certification reimbursement.
• Flexible schedule with core collaboration hours to accommodate different time zones.

Culture & Growth

• Work with a diverse, global team of engineers passionate about infrastructure reliability.
• Opportunities to specialize in areas such as storage, networking, or hyperscale automation.
• Regular virtual tech talks, hackathons, and mentorship programs.
• Clear career progression path from Technician to Senior Technician, Lead, or Infrastructure Engineer.
