Take command of the final, most critical phase of construction projects without ever leaving your home office. As our remote Commissioning Manager, you will be the pivotal leader ensuring that complex building systems—from HVAC to electrical—operate perfectly, on time, and within budget. This role offers unparalleled autonomy and the chance to shape the performance of iconic buildings from your desktop.

About the Role

You will own the end-to-end commissioning process for a portfolio of major commercial, institutional, or industrial projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and owners, you will develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans. Your mission is to translate design intent into operational reality, identifying and resolving deficiencies to guarantee seamless system integration and owner satisfaction. This is a 100% remote position with occasional travel (10-15%) for site visits, stakeholder meetings, and final acceptance events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project-specific commissioning plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Lead functional performance testing (FPT) for all building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, controls, etc.).
  • Coordinate and direct a team of commissioning technicians and specialists.
  • Facilitate rigorous system reviews, pre-functional checklists, and deficiency tracking.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for the owner during the commissioning and close-out phases.
  • Prepare detailed status reports, final commissioning reports, and operations & maintenance (O&M) documentation packages.
  • Conduct training sessions for facility staff on system operations and maintenance.
  • Ensure all projects meet or exceed LEED, WELL, or other relevant certification requirements.

Requirements

We need a proven leader with a deep technical foundation and exceptional project management skills.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in building systems commissioning, with at least 2 years in a managerial or lead role.
  • Mastery of commissioning processes for MEP systems and strong knowledge of building codes (IBC, NEC, NFPA) and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable, or Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or similar certification (CxA, LEED AP).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects with competing deadlines in a remote setting.
  • Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal—for clear reporting and stakeholder management.
  • Proficiency with commissioning software (like Commissioning XP, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary & Benefits

This is a senior-level, exempt position. The estimated salary range for this remote role is $95,000 – $125,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience and project complexity. Bonuses may be available based on project performance and company profitability.
