Are you a meticulous problem-solver passionate about safeguarding communities? We seek a talented Fire Protection Engineer to join our innovative team, working entirely from home. In this critical remote role, you will engineer sophisticated fire suppression and detection systems that protect infrastructure and save lives, all while enjoying unparalleled flexibility and eliminating your commute.

About the Role

As a Remote Fire Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority on fire protection design and analysis. You will take ownership of projects from conceptual design through construction administration, ensuring all solutions comply with stringent national and international codes (NFPA, IFC, etc.). This position is perfect for an engineer who thrives in a collaborative, digital-first environment and wants to make a tangible impact on public safety through cutting-edge design. You will work closely with architects, project managers, and clients across the country, leveraging advanced software for modeling and drafting.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Design & Analysis: Perform hydraulic calculations, develop fire sprinkler system layouts (wet, dry, pre-action, ESFR), and design special hazard suppression systems (e.g., foam, gaseous, water mist).
  • Code Compliance & Reports: Conduct thorough code research, prepare detailed technical specifications, and generate comprehensive fire protection engineering reports and permit submittals.
  • Project Management: Manage assigned project timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure design intent is maintained during construction.
  • Quality Assurance: Review shop drawings and perform site visits (occasional, minimal travel) to verify system installations meet design and code requirements.
  • Client Consultation: Act as a trusted advisor, presenting design solutions, explaining complex engineering concepts, and addressing client concerns with clarity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering is highly preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure will be considered.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in fire protection design within consulting, engineering, or architectural firms.
  • Mastery of NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20, 25, 72, and 101, as well as International Fire Code (IFC).
  • Proficiency with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS, LIT) and AutoCAD/Revit for creating construction drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration and report writing.
  • Must be a U.S. resident and possess a reliable high-speed internet connection for seamless remote work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (MS-FPE).
  • Experience with performance-based design and fire modeling software (e.g., PyroSim, FDS).
  • Background in designing for data centers, healthcare facilities, high-rise buildings, or industrial complexes.
  • Certifications such as Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or NICET certifications in water-based systems.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive and comprehensive rewards package to recognize your expertise and dedication.

  • Salary Range: $85,000 – $115,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience, license status, and proven track record.
  • Performance Bonus: Annual discretionary bonus based on company performance and individual contributions.
  • Full Remote Flexibility: Work from your home office with a stipend to optimize your workspace. We trust you to manage your time effectively.
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees. Significant contribution toward family plans.
  • Retirement Security: 401(k) plan with a generous company match to help you build long-term wealth.
  • Professional Development: Annual budget for continuing education, conferences, workshops, and license renewal fees.
  • Generous PTO: Flexible vacation policy, sick leave, and 8 paid holidays.
  • Life & Disability: Employer-paid life insurance, short-term, and long-term disability coverage.
