Steer the critical final phase of major energy and industrial projects as a remote Commissioning Manager. In this pivotal role, you will orchestrate the transition from construction to full operational readiness, ensuring safety, functionality, and client satisfaction for high-stakes installations across North America, all from your dedicated home office.

About the Role

You are the conductor of the project’s symphony. As our Commissioning Manager, you will take ownership of the entire commissioning and startup process for multi-million dollar facilities. Your mission is to guarantee that every system—from electrical and mechanical to control and safety—performs flawlessly according to design specifications before handover. You will lead a distributed team of technicians and engineers, manage client relations on-site (via scheduled travel), and serve as the ultimate technical authority during the most demanding phase of the project lifecycle. This is a remote role requiring approximately 25-40% travel to project sites for key milestones, planning sessions, and critical troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans, schedules, and budgets for assigned projects.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Commissioning Technicians, Engineers, and Specialists, providing remote oversight and on-site direction during major phases.
  • Conduct rigorous system testing, performance verification, and safety audits, documenting all results meticulously.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients and contractors during commissioning, resolving conflicts and ensuring alignment.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendor support during startup, ensuring adherence to project protocols.
  • Compile final commissioning reports, operations manuals, and “as-built” documentation for client handover.
  • Identify process improvements and contribute to the development of standardized commissioning procedures and best practices.

Requirements

We seek a seasoned professional with a proven track record of leading complex commissioning from inception to completion. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to inspire a team remotely.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in commissioning, preferably within the power generation, oil & gas, chemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience directly managing commissioning teams and multi-discipline projects.
  • Expert-level knowledge of commissioning procedures, system integration, NFPA 70E, OSHA safety standards, and P&ID interpretation.
  • Proficient with commissioning management software (e.g., CxAlloy, TrackBuild) and Microsoft Project.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for clear remote coordination and authoritative client presentations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (up to 40%) to project sites across the United States and occasionally Canada.

Preferred Attributes

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a significant advantage.
  • Experience with smart building technologies, SCADA systems, or advanced process control.
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or similar certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets up to $2M+ for the commissioning phase.
