<a href="https://wehired.agency/jobs/" style="color:var(--primary-color); font-weight:600;">Remote</a> Fire Engineer for U.S. Residents: Shape the Future of Fire Safety from Your Home Office

We are a dynamic, national engineering consultancy on a mission to redefine fire safety. We are seeking a talented and dedicated Fire Engineer to lead cutting-edge projects entirely remotely. If you are passionate about protecting lives and property through innovative design and rigorous analysis, this is your opportunity to make a tangible impact without the constraints of a traditional office.

About the Role

As our Remote Fire Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing and analyzing fire protection systems for diverse commercial, industrial, and institutional projects across the country. You will leverage advanced engineering software to model fire dynamics, perform egress analysis, and ensure full compliance with the latest NFPA standards and local building codes. This is not a desk-bound review role; it is a hands-on engineering position where your calculations and designs directly influence the safety of built environments. You will collaborate with architects, project managers, and clients via video conferencing and cloud-based platforms, becoming an integral part of a distributed but tightly connected project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydraulic calculations for wet, dry, and pre-action sprinkler systems using software like HASS2, HYSYS, or similar.
  • Conduct fire and smoke modeling using Pyrosim or Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) to analyze egress, smoke management, and tenability.
  • Develop detailed fire protection engineering reports, specifications, and drawings (AutoCAD/Revit).
  • Review architectural and MEP designs for code compliance (IBC, NFPA 1, 13, 72, 101, etc.).
  • Participate in virtual design charrettes, client presentations, and authority-having-jurisdiction (AHJ) meetings.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and witness acceptance tests via scheduled travel (approx. 10-15%).
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge base.

Requirements

You Are a Perfect Fit If You Have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state is a strong plus, but not required for all candidates.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in fire protection engineering within a consulting environment.
  • Mastery of NFPA codes and standards, with hands-on experience in hydraulic calculation software and fire modeling tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey complex technical concepts to non-engineers.
  • A disciplined, self-motivated work ethic with the ability to manage multiple project deadlines autonomously.
  • U.S. residency and eligibility to work without sponsorship.

What We Offer

We believe in rewarding excellence and supporting your entire well-being. In return for your expertise, we provide:

  • Competitive Salary Range: $85,000 – $125,000 USD/year, commensurate with experience, licensure, and proven project delivery capability.
  • True Remote Flexibility: Work from anywhere in the U.S. with a flexible schedule that respects your personal life. We provide a home office stipend and top-tier technology.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Including medical, dental, and vision insurance with 90% employer-paid premiums, a 401(k) with 4% company match, and generous paid time off.
  • Professional Growth Fund: An annual budget for continuing education, conferences, certifications, and professional society memberships (like SFPE or NFPA).
  • Impact & Autonomy: Own your projects from concept to completion, see your designs built, and directly contribute to public safety.
  • Collaborative Culture: Join a supportive, non-hierarchical team that values technical rigor, innovation, and mutual respect.

How to Thrive Here

Success in this role goes beyond technical skill. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a virtual setting. You must be adept at asynchronous communication, possess a curious mind that seeks to understand the “why” behind requirements, and have the integrity to uphold the highest ethical and safety standards. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, and takes clear ownership of their workload, turning complex challenges into elegant, compliant solutions.

Ready to Protect?

If you are ready to elevate your engineering career and have a profound impact on community safety from the comfort of your home, we want to hear your story. Please prepare a cover letter that details your most challenging fire protection project, your specific technical contributions, and why remote work is the future of engineering consulting. While we don’t have a formal “apply” button here, your compelling narrative is your application. We review every submission with care and will be in touch if your background aligns with our vision.
