Datacenter Technician Job in Austin

Join Vertex Data Systems as a Datacenter Technician in Austin, where you’ll maintain critical infrastructure for leading cloud platforms and enterprise clients. This hands-on role offers a competitive salary range of $48,000 to $68,000 USD per year, comprehensive benefits, and a clear path to advancement in the booming data center industry. If you thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments and love solving hardware puzzles, this is your opportunity to build a meaningful tech career.

About the Role: Your Mission Critical Impact

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day

You’ll be on the front lines of our 24/7 Austin data center, responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise server hardware, networking gear, and storage systems. Your daily tasks include racking and stacking new equipment, replacing failed components like drives and power supplies, responding to environmental alerts, and ensuring all systems meet strict uptime SLAs. You’ll work directly with Dell, HP, and Cisco UCS hardware, use remote management tools (iDRAC, iLO, IPMI), and collaborate with network and cloud teams to resolve incidents quickly.

Why This Role Matters

Every streaming movie, online transaction, and cloud application relies on data centers like ours. Your work ensures that global services remain available and secure. At Vertex, we don’t just maintain servers—we enable innovation for our clients, from AI startups to major financial institutions. This role puts you at the heart of digital transformation, with tangible impact you can see and measure.

Requirements: The Skills We Need

Must-Have Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in IT, electronics, or related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in a data center, server room, or enterprise IT infrastructure role.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, work in raised floor environments, and adhere to strict safety and ESD protocols.
  • Strong hardware troubleshooting skills: diagnosing server failures, replacing components, and interpreting system logs.
  • Familiarity with server hardware (Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Cisco UCS) and basic networking (IP addressing, VLANs, fiber/copper cabling).
  • Availability for rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and scheduled on-call rotations.

Preferred Certifications & Traits

  • CompTIA Server+, A+, or Network+ certification; vendor-specific certs (Dell EMC, HPE) are a plus.
  • Basic proficiency with Linux/Windows command line for diagnostics and remote access.
  • Excellent documentation skills: you’ll meticulously log actions in ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira) and asset management databases.
  • Detail-oriented team player who communicates clearly under pressure and enjoys continuous learning.

Compensation & Benefits: Invested in Your Growth

We offer a salary range of $48,000 to $68,000 USD per year, determined by your experience, certifications, and shift differentials. But we believe total rewards extend far beyond a paycheck:

  • Health & Wellness: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees; robust options for dependents.
  • Financial Security: 401(k) with 4% company match, plus eligibility for quarterly bonuses and stock options after one year.
  • Continuous Learning: Annual $2,000 stipend for certifications, conferences, and degree programs; internal technical training pathways.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous PTO accrual, flexible scheduling where possible, and paid premiums for on-call shifts.
  • Perks & Environment: Free catered meals and snacks in our Austin office, commuter benefits, modern工具-equipped workspaces, and quarterly team-building events.
