About the Role

As a Background Investigator working remotely, you will conduct comprehensive background checks and due diligence investigations for clients across multiple sectors. You will utilize various databases, public records, and investigative techniques to compile accurate and thorough reports that meet legal and regulatory compliance standards.

This remote position requires you to maintain strict confidentiality, adhere to federal and state laws including FCRA guidelines, and communicate professionally with clients, candidates, and third-party vendors. You will work independently while collaborating with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of investigation results and maintain high-quality standards throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities

Investigation Activities

• Conduct thorough background screenings including criminal history, employment verification, education confirmation, and reference checks
• Research and analyze public records from courthouses, databases, and other sources
• Verify professional licenses, certifications, and credentials
• Perform social security number trace and address history verification
• Investigate financial records and credit history when authorized

Documentation and Compliance

• Prepare detailed investigative reports with clear findings and supporting documentation
• Ensure all investigations comply with FCRA, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and state regulations
• Maintain accurate records and case files in secure digital systems
• Communicate findings to clients while protecting candidate privacy rights

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Business, or related field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in background investigation, private investigation, or related field
• Strong understanding of FCRA compliance and investigative best practices
• Proficiency with database research tools and Microsoft Office Suite

Salary Range

$48,000 – $68,000 USD/year
