About the Role
As a Remote Estimator, you will be the financial backbone of our project pipeline. Working from your home office (or a coffee shop – anywhere stable Wi‑Fi exists), you’ll analyze blueprints, scope documents, and material costs to produce accurate, competitive estimates. You’ll collaborate with project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors via video calls and cloud-based platforms, ensuring every bid is both profitable and compelling.
This is not a data-entry role – it’s a strategic position where your insights directly influence project go/no-go decisions. We value both speed and precision, and we provide cutting-edge takeoff software to help you succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural and engineering plans to quantify materials, labor, and equipment needed.
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers; negotiate pricing as needed.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and bid packages using industry-standard software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, etc.).
- Present estimates to senior leadership, explaining assumptions and risk factors.
- Maintain a database of historical pricing to improve future accuracy.
- Stay current on market trends for lumber, steel, concrete, and other commodities.
Based on experience and location; performance bonuses may also apply.
Requirements – What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 3+ years as a construction estimator or similar role (commercial/residential/industrial).
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets), and CRM tools. Familiarity with BIM or 3D takeoff is a plus.
- Remote Readiness: A dedicated workspace, high-speed internet, and strong self-direction. You’re comfortable asynchronously collaborating across time zones.
- Communication Clarity: You can explain complex estimates to non-technical stakeholders clearly and persuasively.
- Detail-Oriented: You catch hidden scope items before they become change orders.
- Certification (preferred but not required): ASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent.
