Join a forward-thinking engineering firm in Chicago where your designs directly define the city’s future. This role offers the unique chance to work on high-profile, innovative structures while advancing your career in a collaborative, award-winning environment. If you’re ready to translate complex challenges into elegant, safe, and sustainable solutions, this is your opportunity.

About the Role

As a Structural Engineer, you will be integral to our project teams, taking ownership of the design and analysis phases for diverse building types—from commercial high-rises and cultural landmarks to resilient infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and clients to ensure every project meets the highest standards of safety, functionality, and aesthetic vision. Your work will involve creating detailed models, performing complex calculations, and preparing comprehensive construction documents using the latest software. This is not a siloed position; you will be a key communicator, presenting your designs and justifying engineering decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform structural analysis and design for steel, concrete, and timber systems.
  • Develop detailed construction documents and specifications.
  • Conduct field observations and peer reviews during construction administration.
  • Collaborate with architectural, MEP, and civil engineering teams from schematic design through project completion.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge base.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, IBC, and relevant standards (ACI, AISC, etc.).

Requirements

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a dynamic setting. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical mastery and strong interpersonal skills.

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • 4-8 years of progressive structural engineering experience in the building sector.
  • Expert proficiency in Revit, and structural analysis software like RAM, SAP2000, or ETABS.
  • Deep understanding of construction materials, methods, and building code applications.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous learning.

Highly Desired:

  • Experience with complex or unique structures (e.g., long-span, cable-supported, adaptive reuse).
  • Background in sustainable design and LEED certification processes.
  • Seismic design experience for West Coast projects or wind engineering for tall buildings.
  • Strong project management skills and experience leading project teams.
