As the financial architect behind our project successes, you will transform blueprints into winning bids and profitable contracts. This role is perfect for a strategic thinker who loves the challenge of balancing precision with profitability in the dynamic Austin construction market.

About the Role

You will lead the full lifecycle of cost estimation for commercial and residential construction projects, from initial conceptual takeoffs to final bid submission. Working closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors, you will be the critical link between design intent and financial reality. Your analytical skills and attention to detail will ensure our bids are not only competitive but also protective of our margins, directly fueling our company’s growth and reputation for excellence in Central Texas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using digital plans and specialized software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff).
  • Analyze project specifications, scopes of work, and drawings to develop comprehensive cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor bids.
  • Solicit, review, and qualify subcontractor and vendor quotes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and assemble clear, compelling, and complete bid packages for client submission.
  • Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to gather crucial field data and clarify project nuances.
  • Maintain a historical cost database and perform post-bid analysis to continuously refine estimating accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Preconstruction and Project Management teams to identify value engineering opportunities and mitigate risk.

  • Proven proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Expert-level skill with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Buildertrend, RSMeans) and takeoff tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and current market pricing in the Austin area.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, complex formulas).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple high-pressure deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Attributes

  • A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Estimator Certification (e.g., CCP, CPE) or active pursuit thereof.
  • Direct experience with public sector (city, state, federal) bidding protocols.
