Are you a master of steel and concrete, ready to leave a permanent mark on the Chicago skyline? We are a premier engineering firm seeking a brilliant Structural Engineer to lead the charge on some of the most ambitious, high-visibility commercial and mixed-use towers in the Midwest. This isn't just a job; it's your chance to engineer the future, with a compensation package in the top percentile for the industry.
About the Role: Engineer the Impossible
You will be at the forefront of our project delivery team, taking ownership from schematic design through construction administration for complex, high-rise structures. Your work will directly influence the architectural vision, ensuring every design is not only breathtaking but also impeccably safe, efficient, and buildable. You will collaborate with world-class architects, contractors, and developers, solving unique challenges that push the boundaries of modern engineering.
Your Core Impact Will Include:
- Leading Design & Analysis: Perform advanced structural analysis and design for steel, concrete, and composite systems for buildings exceeding 40 stories.
- Project Leadership: Serve as the primary engineering contact on key project phases, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Innovation & Optimization: Develop creative, cost-effective structural solutions that enhance architectural freedom and sustainability goals.
- Construction Support: Provide expert field support, review shop drawings, and resolve complex construction issues on active, high-profile job sites.
- Client & Code Mastery: Interface with clients and code officials, navigating complex building codes (IBC, ASCE 7) and local amendments with authority.
Who You Are: The Modern Master Builder
We are not looking for a code-follower; we need a paradigm-shifting engineer who sees structures as art forms rooted in physics. You are passionate about the interplay between form and function and thrive in a fast-paced, intellectually demanding environment.
Essential Qualifications:
- PE License: A current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois (or ability to obtain by reciprocity within 6 months) is non-negotiable.
- Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in structural design for high-rise commercial/retail/mixed-use buildings.
- Technical Mastery: Expert proficiency in ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, and Revit. Knowledge of performance-based design and wind engineering is a major plus.
- Education: Bachelorβs or Masterβs degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Portfolio: A demonstrable portfolio of projects you led or significantly contributed to, showcasing complexity and innovation.
Highly Desired (The “Wow” Factors):
- Experience with complex geometries (twisted facades, large cantilevers, column-free spaces).
- Background in seismic design or projects in high-wind regions.
- Familiarity with sustainable design frameworks (LEED, embodied carbon reduction).
- Prior experience at a top-tier national or international engineering/architecture firm.
