Join a forward‑thinking team that designs resilient water infrastructure for communities across the country. This fully remote position lets you apply advanced hydraulic modeling and climate‑adaptation strategies from anywhere while delivering measurable environmental impact.

About the Role

As a Remote Water Resources Engineer, you will lead the planning, analysis, and design of surface‑water, groundwater, and stormwater projects for public and private clients. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—hydrologists, GIS specialists, and civil engineers—to develop sustainable solutions that meet regulatory standards and community needs. The role offers autonomy to manage project lifecycles, from feasibility studies through construction support, all while leveraging cloud‑based collaboration tools.

Key Responsibilities

Hydrologic & Hydraulic Modeling

  • Build and calibrate 1D/2D models using HEC‑RAS, SWMM, MODFLOW, and proprietary software.
  • Perform floodplain mapping, dam breach analysis, and stormwater detention design.

Project Management & Client Interaction

  • Prepare scopes, schedules, and budgets for water resources assignments.
  • Present technical findings to stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and community groups.

Regulatory Compliance & Permitting

  • Navigate NPDES, Clean Water Act, and state water‑right permitting processes.
  • Develop mitigation plans for wetlands, stream restoration, and water‑quality compliance.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Integrate climate‑change projections into design criteria.
  • Automate repetitive workflows with Python, R, or GIS scripting.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Technical Expertise

  • 5+ years of experience in water resources modeling and design.
  • Proficiency with HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, SWMM, MODFLOW, and GIS platforms (ArcGIS/QGIS).
  • Strong scripting skills in Python or R for data processing and automation.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication for remote collaboration.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusive engineering practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with green infrastructure and low‑impact development (LID) design.
  • Familiarity with FEMA Flood Insurance Studies and Community Rating System.
  • Knowledge of water‑resource economics and benefit‑cost analysis.

Salary Range

$95,000 – $130,000 USD per year, commensurate with experience, certifications, and geographic cost‑of‑living adjustments.

Benefits & Perks

  • 100 % remote work with a generous home‑office stipend.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents.
  • 401(k) match up to 5 % plus profit‑sharing.
  • Annual professional‑development budget ($3,000) for conferences, courses, and certifications.
  • Flexible PTO, paid holidays, and a wellness allowance.
  • Access to cutting‑edge software licenses and high‑performance cloud compute resources.

Culture & Values

Our engineering practice is built on transparency, data‑driven decision making, and a shared passion for water stewardship. Team members participate in weekly virtual “water‑cooler” sessions, quarterly hackathons focused on climate resilience, and an annual company‑wide field‑trip (virtual or in‑person) to iconic water projects. We celebrate diverse perspectives and encourage mentorship at every career stage.

How to Succeed in This Role

  • Proactively communicate project status and risks through our collaborative platform.
  • Leverage open‑source tools and contribute improvements back to the community.
  • Stay current with evolving regulations, climate science, and modeling best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge‑sharing across the distributed team.
