About This Position
Job Summary
Promise is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join its Washington, D.C. team. In this role you will combine deep technical expertise with client‑facing skills to design, implement, and optimize solutions that help government agencies deliver benefits and payment plans more efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with agency stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable technical designs.
- Deploy, configure, and integrate Promise’s platform within existing public‑sector IT environments.
- Provide hands‑on engineering support during pilots, roll‑outs, and post‑deployment phases.
- Develop custom extensions, APIs, and data pipelines to meet unique agency needs.
- Conduct performance tuning, security hardening, and compliance checks to meet federal standards.
- Deliver technical workshops, training sessions, and documentation for agency staff.
- Act as a technical liaison between product, engineering, and client teams, ensuring feedback loops drive product improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably with SaaS platforms or public‑sector technology.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Hands‑on experience with RESTful APIs, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work directly with non‑technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
Preferred Experience
- Background in government or utility programs, benefits administration, or payment processing.
- Familiarity with FedRAMP, NIST, or other federal security frameworks.
- Experience delivering technical solutions on site or remotely in fast‑paced client environments.
