Job Summary

GCM Consultants inc. is seeking a Director of the Building Department for a hybrid remote role based in Varennes, Lajemmerais, Canada. This senior position leads the building engineering team, drives technical excellence and supports strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of building engineers and designers.
• Oversee project planning, design review, and delivery to ensure compliance with codes, standards and client expectations.
• Develop and implement department policies, procedures and best‑practice guidelines.
• Coordinate with senior management on budgeting, resource allocation and business development.
• Maintain strong client relationships, presenting technical solutions and progress reports.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating new technologies and sustainable design practices.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental standards are met on all projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Building Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 8 years of experience in building engineering, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong technical knowledge of construction codes, BIM, and project delivery methods.
• Proven leadership, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work both on‑site and remotely, managing hybrid teams effectively.
• Professional engineering license (P.Eng) or equivalent is an asset.
