Communication Technician I/SSA

Rural Telephone Service Company is hiring a Communication Technician I/SSA in Salina, Saline County, US. This role focuses on installing, maintaining and troubleshooting security alarm, surveillance and access control systems while supporting Layer 1 & 2 network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure and service security alarm, IP surveillance, and access control equipment.
• Maintain Layer 1 distribution and transport systems, including fiber and copper cabling.
• Support Layer 2 transport and access switching equipment.
• Perform troubleshooting and repair of customer premise equipment.
• Restore buildings and grounds after service work to meet safety and quality standards.
• Document work orders, maintain accurate inventory and update system logs.
• Collaborate with field teams and provide on‑site technical guidance.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical certifications (e.g., CTS, BICSI, or related) preferred.
• 2+ years experience with security alarm, surveillance or access control systems.
• Knowledge of Layer 1 (cabling, fiber optics) and Layer 2 (switching, VLANs) networking concepts.
• Ability to read schematics, blueprints and technical manuals.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and customer‑service orientation.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within service area.

Compensation

Salary range: $44,470 – $55,577 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
