Accountant

Horstman Inc is seeking a detail‑oriented Accountant to join its finance team in Sterling Heights, Macomb County, US. This full‑time role supports the Financial Controller with core accounting, reporting and compliance tasks for a regulated defense manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and post monthly journal entries, accruals and adjustments.
• Assist in the preparation of accurate financial statements and management reports for the U.S. entity.
• Support the Controller in consolidating data for group and global reporting packages.
• Maintain general ledger integrity and resolve variances promptly.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX and defense‑industry specific regulations.
• Coordinate internal and external audit activities, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
• Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations and fixed‑asset accounting.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best‑practice accounting procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• 2‑4 years of hands‑on accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or defense.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX compliance and regulatory reporting.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with senior finance leadership.
