About This Position
Merck is seeking a Director, Strategic Alliances to lead global partnership initiatives from its Rahway, Union County, US headquarters. This hybrid role combines high‑level alliance management with strategic project oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Global Project and Alliance Management (GPAM) team in developing and executing alliance strategies that align with Merck’s R&D objectives.
- Manage cross‑functional discovery and development teams to ensure timely delivery of partnership milestones.
- Negotiate and oversee alliance agreements, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial requirements.
- Drive portfolio analysis, risk assessment, and resource allocation across multiple collaborative projects.
- Represent Merck in external partner meetings, industry forums, and executive briefings.
- Mentor and develop junior alliance managers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, or MBA) in a scientific, technical, or business discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in strategic alliance management, preferably within pharma or biotech R&D.
- Proven track record of leading multi‑disciplinary teams and delivering complex partnership outcomes.
- Strong negotiation, contract management, and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
