About This Position
Job Summary
The Power System Coordinator (Transmission System Operator) at Southern Company in Gulfport, Harrison County, US is responsible for the safe, reliable real‑time operation of Mississippi Power’s bulk transmission system.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor minute‑to‑minute conditions of the bulk electric power system and respond to alarms and events.
- Control generation dispatch, voltage, frequency and power flow to maintain system stability.
- Analyze system data, perform contingency studies, and recommend restoration actions during disturbances.
- Coordinate with field crews, control centers, and external utilities to execute outage plans and emergency procedures.
- Prepare and submit operational reports, incident analyses, and compliance documentation.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance, system upgrades, and training exercises.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years experience in transmission system operations or a similar high‑voltage environment.
- Strong knowledge of NERC reliability standards, SCADA, EMS, and protective relay systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities under pressure.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with engineers, operators and regulatory agencies.
