Lead UI/UX Design & Research Engineer (Remote)
About This Position
GovCIO is hiring a Lead UI/UX Design & Research Engineer to work fully remotely from anywhere in the United States. This senior role blends user‑centered research with hands‑on design and collaborates closely with development teams to deliver high‑impact digital experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end UI/UX research and design for complex enterprise applications.
- Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Software Architects and QA teams to translate business goals into intuitive user interfaces.
- Conduct user interviews, usability testing, surveys, and data analysis to inform design decisions.
- Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high‑fidelity visual designs using tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
- Collaborate with React/Redux and Full‑Stack developers to ensure design feasibility and maintain design consistency across platforms.
- Establish and maintain UI design systems, pattern libraries, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).
- Mentor junior designers and advocate for a human‑centric design culture within the organization.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional UI/UX design and research experience, preferably in a federal or large‑scale enterprise environment.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user‑centered design processes and measurable outcomes.
- Expertise with React/Redux front‑end frameworks and understanding of component‑based design.
- Proficiency in user research methods, usability testing, and data‑driven design iteration.
- Excellent communication skills to convey design concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Eligibility for a US Suitability/Public Trust security clearance.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Agile/Scrum development cycles.
- Knowledge of accessibility compliance and inclusive design.
- Familiarity with design ops tools such as Storybook or Zeroheight.
Compensation & Benefits
