Job Summary
UnitedHealth Group is seeking an experienced Gastroenterologist to join its Appeals Medical Department on a remote basis, reporting from Boston, Suffolk County, US. This full‑time role offers a fixed annual salary of $55,555.96.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and adjudicate complex medical appeals related to gastroenterology services.
- Provide evidence‑based clinical opinions to support appeal decisions.
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and legal teams to ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer guidelines.
- Document findings in the appeals system accurately and within established turnaround times.
- Stay current with gastroenterology best practices, coding updates (ICD‑10, CPT), and regulatory changes.
- Participate in continuous‑quality improvement initiatives and peer‑review sessions.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Doctor (MD) degree with board certification in Gastroenterology.
- Active medical license in the United States, eligible to practice in Massachusetts.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology, preferably with exposure to insurance appeals or utilization management.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret medical records, test results, and procedural reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and familiarity with UnitedHealth Group’s claims platforms is a plus.
