About This Position
The Regional Medical Scientific Director (Medical Science Liaison) – Ophthalmology will work in North Wales, Montgomery County, US for Merck, providing expert scientific exchange with key opinion leaders in the Pacific Northwest region.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in bidirectional scientific dialogue with Scientific Leaders (SLs) on ophthalmology therapies and disease states.
- Deliver balanced, evidence‑based information about Merck’s pipeline, non‑product research areas, and existing product portfolio.
- Respond promptly to scientific inquiries from SLs, including complex questions about clinical data, mechanisms of action, and safety profiles.
- Develop and present scientific content for advisory boards, speaker programs, and regional medical education events.
- Collaborate with internal cross‑functional teams (clinical development, regulatory, marketing) to ensure alignment of scientific messaging.
- Support data generation activities, including observational studies, real‑world evidence projects, and publication planning.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of ophthalmology market trends, competitor landscapes, and emerging therapies.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, OD, DO, or MD) with strong expertise in ophthalmology.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a medical science liaison or similar scientific communication role within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Strong analytical mindset and experience interpreting clinical trial data.
- Willingness to travel regionally (approximately 40‑60% travel).
Compensation
Base salary: $126,902.70 per year.
