Java backend with Appian

Join 1 Point System as a Staff Engineer I (Java) working remotely from anywhere in the US. Lead backend development for the Workflow Orchestration Initiative, building scalable, secure services with Java, micro‑services and Appian.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance Java micro‑services supporting enterprise workflow and automation solutions.
• Integrate and extend the Appian platform to enable seamless workflow orchestration.
• Provide senior technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross‑functional teams to define requirements and deliver robust solutions.
• Ensure security, scalability, and reliability of all backend services.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of professional Java development experience, preferably with Spring Boot and micro‑services architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with Appian or similar BPM/workflow platforms.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and version control (Git).
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with event‑driven architectures, Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Knowledge of security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, OWASP).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Compensation & Benefits
