Job Summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking a full‑time Respiratory Therapist for the Night Float Pool in Lafayette, Lafayette Parish. This position provides 24‑hour respiratory care across multiple units, ensuring patients receive expert support throughout the night shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive respiratory therapy services to patients in ICU, med‑surg, ED, and step‑down units during night hours.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized respiratory treatment plans.
• Operate and maintain ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP machines, nebulizers, and other respiratory equipment.
• Respond promptly to code situations, providing emergency airway management and ventilatory support.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record.
• Participate in night‑shift quality improvement projects and education initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with state licensure, hospital policies, and infection‑control standards.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
• Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Louisiana.
• Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in acute care setting; night‑shift experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, and arterial blood gas interpretation.
• Excellent communication, critical‑thinking, and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work rotating night shifts and occasional weekend coverage.
