Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator will lead patient care in the Heart Transplant Clinic, overseeing VAD therapy from implantation through recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all aspects of ventricular assist device (VAD) patient management, including pre‑operative assessment, device implantation, postoperative care, and long‑term follow‑up.
- Educate patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members on VAD indications, operation, troubleshooting, and emergency protocols.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, device logs, and regulatory compliance reports.
- Collaborate with surgeons, cardiologists, perfusionists, and social workers to develop individualized care plans.
- Monitor device performance, recognize complications early, and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research studies, and staff training related to mechanical circulatory support.
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
- Minimum 2 years of acute cardiac nursing experience; specialized experience with VADs strongly preferred.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Strong critical‑thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including on‑call rotations.
