About This Position

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator will lead patient care in the Heart Transplant Clinic, overseeing VAD therapy from implantation through recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of ventricular assist device (VAD) patient management, including pre‑operative assessment, device implantation, postoperative care, and long‑term follow‑up.
  • Educate patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members on VAD indications, operation, troubleshooting, and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, device logs, and regulatory compliance reports.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, cardiologists, perfusionists, and social workers to develop individualized care plans.
  • Monitor device performance, recognize complications early, and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research studies, and staff training related to mechanical circulatory support.

Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
  • Minimum 2 years of acute cardiac nursing experience; specialized experience with VADs strongly preferred.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Strong critical‑thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including on‑call rotations.
